Production burn-in · WMI provider · assets into the domain
The line had to write serial numbers onto docks, and the asset system (SCCM) then had to read them back. Manual entry was not an option.
A user-mode WMI provider DLL registers in root/cimv2 and exposes serial, model and station. The production tool writes through WMI; SCCM collects through the same interface.
Format and uniqueness are checked before writing, duplicates refused; logs land in local files for traceability; the registration script needs admin rights and ships with an uninstall path.
